Affectionately known as “Lady Lager” and “Mama Rhythm, Alisa Bowens-Mercado made history by becoming the first African-American, woman-owned beer brand in the state of Connecticut (4th in the Country). Although already busy running and teaching at Alisa’s House of Salsa, her dance studio in New Haven, she launched Rhythm Brewing in 2018 after recognizing a significant gap in the populations served by the $114 billion beer industry.
